A journal of my faith journey. I aim to please and glorify Him with my thoughts, words, and testimony (1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 5:9).

Offering a Perfect Sacrifice

reflection from Numbers 29.

Praise God for, once and for all, He atoned our sins, making us right before Him by the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:10). And this glorifies the Father (John 12:27-28). There is no need for us to sacrifice the Old Testament offering requirements over and over and over. Christ’s sacrifice was enough. And it rose toward the Father as a pleasing aroma.

The burnt offering, accompanied by grain, liquid, and sin offerings, served only as a dim preview of what was the perfect sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:1).

Can we serve the same perfect sacrifice, all with no defects (Numbers 29:2, 8, 13, 17, 20, 23, 26, 32, 36), which will become a pleasing aroma to God? Yes!

Here are the ways:

1. Fire that burnt the offerings. To me, this fire symbolizes passion produced by the Spirit of God. This passion rises as a pleasing aroma to the Father because it concerns His glory ( global fame or reputation). He delights with us when we consume our strength, time, and resources in intentionally glorifying Him. Phinehas demonstrated this blazing passion for God’s name, which is found in Numbers 25.

2. Sacrifice of praise. See Hebrews 13:15. This means I will openly and continually profess His name.

3. Good works. See Hebrews 13:16. Doing good by meeting others’ needs and sharing with them is a sacrifice pleasing to the Lord.

4. Through our body. See Romans 12:1. Our body is the Holy Spirit’s temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We glorify God through our body by not taking in any substance (illicit drugs, alcoholic beverages) that can fast-track its deterioration and not yield to sexual sin.

5. Giving of gifts. See Philippians 4:18. Extending help and support through finances and material gifts to Kingdom workers is a pleasing and acceptable offering to God.

May we seize every opportunity to glorify God.

Will you offer these sacrifices to intentionally glorify God?
